A study on the effects of music appreciation and singing on elementary students' preference, main melody recognition, and learning satisfaction

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of classical music appreciation program combined with singing for elementary students on recognition of the main melody, their musical preference and satisfaction of the music program. The subjects were 138 1st graders of the elementary school in Gyong-gi Province. The groups were divided into the two groups: 69 in the experimental group and 68 in the control group. Subjects in the experimental group participated in music appreciation program combined with singing for about 50 minutes while subjects in the control group participated in receptive music listening program. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the two groups in the main melody recognition, preference and satisfaction of this music appreciation program.
